Understanding DNS records

An important step in getting your email setup is setting the right DNS records. MX records (Mail Exchange records) are important DNS records that are required for delivering emails to your email address. MX records help in identifying where emails sent to your email address (and your domain) get routed to. You will not be able to receive emails until your MX records point to the right location.

Configuring your professional email to have the right DNS settings is very simple. Please jump to the section relevant to you, to understand how you can go about setting it up.

Your don't have registered domain

Scenario: You don't have a registered domain

If you have not registered the domain for which you have purchased the hosting package, you should do it right away to get your email to start working.

If you register the domain through TSO

If you have just registered a domain from TSO host, please check where your domain's Nameserver records are pointing to. If your Nameserver records point to ns1.tsohost.com and ns2.tsohost.com, your DNS settings will be set by default.

DNS propagation might take between 24 and 72 hours, after which you will be able to use your email. Alternatively, you can also verify the DNS settings for your domain here.

If you register the domain from another registrar

If you are registering your domain from another registrar, you can login to the control panel to make the necessary changes. You can check "WhoIs" to see where is the Domain DNS located and who the registrar is. If you can't find the option, please reach out to your registrar support for assistance.

If your domain's nameservers point to one of the belongs to one of the registrars below, follow the steps in the respective article to set your domain's MX and SPF records

If your domain is registered with any other registrar, you may follow these steps(or forward them to your webmaster/techie friend)

Log in to your account on the domain registrar's site.
Navigate to the DNS / Domain Management Page/ DNS Control Panel in your admin page
Find the MX Records/ Email Servers/ Email Settings option
Add OR Replace the following MX records to your domain
Set the Name/ Host field as either @ or leave it Blank.
Set the Value/Points to field as mx1.flockmail.com
Set the Priority field as 10
Set the TTL value to 1 hour or 3600 seconds.
Repeat the above steps for all entries in the below table
Important: If there are existing MX records present, delete them and ensure only the mx record settings below are present

Priority	Host	Points to	TTL
10	@	mx1.flockmail.com	1 hour/ 3600 seconds
20	@	mx2.flockmail.com	1 hour/ 3600 seconds

Also, add the following SPF record to your domain

Record Type	Host	Value	TTL
TXT	@	v=spf1 include:spf.flockmail.com ~all	1 hour/ 3600 seconds

Once you have set the records, it could take anywhere between 6-8 hrs for it to take effect, due to DNS Propagation.

Scenario: You have a valid registered domain

If your domain is not hosted with TSO

If your domain's nameservers do not point toward ns1.tsodns.com and ns2.tsodns.com, then you will have to check this on "WhoIs" to see where is the Domain DNS located and who the registrar is.

Once you find your registrar, you can login to the control panel to make the necessary changes. If you can't find the option, please reach out to your registrar support for assistance.
